Easter is to Spring : Cadbury eggs is to YUK

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I thought i'd do a little mini interview with some friends about Easter. Everyone's traditions are different, so it's fun to see what's going on at other people's homes this Sunday.

Candy:

Most hated candy or Easter gift would have to be black jelly beans - BLECH! -- Ann

I can't stand those wedge fruity gelatinous thingies. Ick. They're gooey and weird to eat, get stuck in your teeth. Blech. -- Cristy

Cadbury Cream Eggs. I'm sorry, but that cream is nasty. Oh, and black licorice jelly beans. BLECH.
-- Steffy

Spiced jellybeans, spiced anything. GROSS. Barf. Yak. --Jeana

Easter colored candy corn and cadbury eggs. who wants candy that looks like dead baby chickens?
-- Teresa

Favorite Easter-time Food

Cheesy potatoes - YUM. -- Jeana

I know it's traditional to have ham and stuff on Easter, but my mom usually barbecues. Here in St. Louis we have a little something called pork steak, my friends. Try it. Love it. Eat it. -- Steffy

I don't know if it's traditional or not, but I love having ham on Easter Sunday. I haven't had it in a while. Hmmm... -- Cristy

Favorite Easter meal food...hmmm...the menu changes every year. We don't really have any traditions for this one, but we do usually have some sort of jell-o salad, and I do really like those. -- Ann

I love ham and whatever type of cheesy casserole thing that shows up --Teresa

Where did that come from?

I remember every year at Easter they used to show The Ten Commandments on television sans commercials. It's a pretty epic movie... and I loved watching it every year. Despite the fact that I am not religious at all, I still enjoy the movie. I still remember the year they showed it, and they cut in commercials to it. I was actually horrified. COMMERCIALS in The Ten Commandments. I mean, really. -- Steffy

What it's all about

I love the ceremony and tradition associated with the Easter season - passover, Ash Wednesday, all of that. I grew up in one Protestant church or another, but I never learned the *meanings* of everything until I was older. I attended an amazing church in College Station, Texas, several years ago that had the best minister I've ever known. She (yes, she) had events planned all through the season with an "experience" recognizing all the different parts. I believe it was the Thursday before (or maybe Saturday?) Easter that the sanctuary was completely blacked out with only a few candles and it was a completely silent service with prayer and meditation. I really dug the whole thing and wish I could find another church like it. I'll treasure those experiences all my life. She opened my eyes and introduced me to the *interesting* side of religion and spirituality. Neat. :)  -- Cristy

-- Thanks to all our contributors and have a Happy Easter!
