Gardening

We expanded our garden this year so it's twice the size of last year. (Please note that i'm not the tender of this garden, my husband is)
So we have a row of assorted sunflowers, two rows of Roma and Beefsteak tomatoes and 3 rows of green, habenero and some other sort of pepper. (please note: I DO NOT EAT PEPPERS)
I'm really starting to get into canning the food that comes out of our backyard, last year i made a bunch of applesauce and apple butter that seemed to go over well. This year since we have quite a bit more tomatoes than EVER I figure I need to can them. I've been asking around from simple and GREAT pasta sauce recipes. Those are easy enough to find online.
I really enjoy the fact that I can walk out into my yard and grab a few veggies and eat them right away. Too bad there's no such thing as an outdoor winter vegtetable or else i'd be all over that!.

Do you have a garden and what's your favorite crop to come out of it?
So far I LOVE our apple trees and making dishes with our apples. This year our pear tree is finally maturing and we're going to have a lot of pears too.

My favorite thing about our garden. The birdies! At any time I can go out there and find goldfinches and other small birds hanging out in the shade of the sunflowers.

Awe-love it! Great sunflowers...we did not get any planted this year, but definitely next year. We have several varieties of peppers as well, also tomatoes & cucumbers-which are going to be coming out of our ears soon. Then surprise to us, pumpkins everywhere-we're afraid they are going to take down the fence they are growing on! This year was our 1st year with the garden and even though it is already fenced, I would like to expand it for cabbage, green beans, and more...eventually. I also have herbs growing up near the house-sage, rosemary, thyme, chives, lemon balm & chocolate mint. The Chia herbs aren't lookin so hot tho...

hah our chia herbs didn't take very well either. they started to grow right away but only the basil survived the transplanting outdoors. so we have lots of basil for the tomato sauce i'll be making.

we haven't done pumpkins in a while cuz they take over the whole yard. gardens are fun tho aren't they?

I really respect anybody that can keep up with a garden (particularly a veggie one). I don't have the patience or diligence for it. My sis-in-law grows tomatoes and other stuff every year, and I LOVE eating tomatoes fresh out of her garden. Yum! Nothing quite like a sun-warmed tomato.
