adventures from the home office

Things I don't miss:
- listening to other people call their doctors and describe their maladies in detail. ("i've got this greenish blue growth...")
- listening to someone complain about how the jeans someone is wearing are not appropriate
- having to sit in a cube ALL DAY, and if you aren't there listening to someone talk about how you're never working.
- doing the walk of shame past the front desk when you roll in at 9:15, uh 9:30, uh i mean 10:05am :)
- Talking to my cube neighbors about what happened on XYZ show last night
- Going out to lunch with work friends
- Walking across the office to ask someone a question and getting a detailed answer
- Free snacks/potluck/lunches

I must admit there is a love / hate relationship with cubicle working. I have had an office for nearly 3 years and I gave that up to change companies and move into a bullpen -- with my boss! What I do know, is that my Zune will be with me almost at all times so I can zone out the office white noise and focus on what they hired me to do. And I plan on doing lots of lunches and snacks (like always). I will miss the solitude of getting work done at home when I just need some peace and QUIET!
I yearn to find a job that I can do from home. But the one I'm at right now has a joint office with my best friend so it's not too bad.
I think I'd need to get better at time management when alone though, because I could get distracted so easily ALL day being at home. LOL How do you do it?
Oh man the cube days were so stifling! Has florescent lights made your list, yet? The worst. They recently replaced a bunch in my office and I loathe them. I actually asked the janitor if we could go ahead and dim it down some. I guess it is to make up for it getting dark earlier? Who knows. ..
i generally get more work done when i'm at home, in the office i end up chatting with people quite a bit.
chrystal, i do get distracted with laundry and dishes but i try to limit those to normal 5-10 min breaks.
Mrs. K: ugh the florescent lights! i hate those, i do think they tend to give me migraines. i remember standing on my desk and unscrewing the bulbs in my area.
