Name
David K. Fuller, but in a lot of areas I go by Strange or Strange/David.
Hometown
Well, this is a little complex, too. I was born and raised in Syracuse, NY; I live in Bargersville, IN; but I always think of Indianapolis as my adopted hometown. After being away for a long time, I smile when I see the Indy skyline, and I think, "My town."
What's your 5 year plan? for anything, life , work, play....
In five years, I either want to have earned one more promotion at work (at which point I will be managing the managers) or to be out of the office life entirely and successfully writing and selling murder mystery novels. I also wouldn't turn down being retired with a few billion dollars and/or the owner of the Indianapolis Colts.
Tell me about your first car
It was a 1994(?) Ford Escort "Pony" hatchback, bumblebee-yellow, that I basically inherited from my wife in 1999. I didn't get my driver's license until I was nearly 22; I hate hate HATE driving, and that piece of junk car didn't help much. If it wasn't breaking down, it was because it was already broken down. I can't even tell you how much I hated that car, but to be fair, there's never been a car I've exactly loved.
What is your earliest memory of reading
Wow. That's tricky. I've been reading since I was about two and a half, so I can't remember ever NOT reading. One of my earliest specific memories of reading was reading a story about a hat peddler and a bunch of monkeys in a tree. I also remember reading Richard Scarry books. But the first really strong memory is reading an Encyclopedia Brown book in first grade and finding a logical flaw in the solution to the mystery.
What do you think is the most underrated tv show
Well, I just learned about it a few weeks ago, and it's already canceled, but it's available on Hulu: "Life." It only lasted 32 episodes, since the failed Jay Leno experiment caused it to be canceled. It has one of the best original characters I've ever seen, and a strong supporting cast. Also in a similar category is the BBC show "Cracker." ...You know, I should actually point out that I'm about 2/3 of the way through "Life," and it is starting to lose me just ever so slightly, but I'm hoping it's just a two-episode slump.
Do you really think 'cellar door' is the most beautiful phrase in the English language?
No, and I wish that whole thing had never gotten started. I think the most beautiful phrase in the English language, based strictly on how it sounds and not what it means, is "forward fuselage." Based strictly on what it means and not how it sounds, "two-dollar imports."
Do you have a blog or website you'd like to plug for yourself or anyone else?
Well, not so much for myself yet unless people want to buy my first book, "On the Devil's Payroll," in which case strangedavid.com is available for your browsing pleasure. But I think there aren't nearly enough people reading www.schlockmercenary.com by Howard Tayler, and I will always send people to www.comedysportz.com and www.indycomedysportz.com for all your improv comedy needs.

I can't believe you didn't have a car until you were 22 in the midwest! i mean i guess there's public transport, but you do you get to your friends house at 1am? :)

I read Encyclopedia Brown, too. Interesting view about cars. I loved not having one when I lived in Boulder, but not everywhere is as no-car-friendly.
Neat interview!
cristy: i can see not having a car if you live in the city of chicago, it's all about the public transport and biking. but i guess i don't know enough about where he's from in indianapolis . i guess if you are a college student you just glom onto friends with cars to go to walmart or wherever.
boulder sounds like a great place. i hope one day to visit colorado and not just the airport :)
We went to college in a tiny town where you could walk most everywhere, and plenty of us who knew him had cars.
After we moved to Indy, I had to drive him everywhere - he got his license within 4 months after that move.
