Blast From the Past

I had the cheeseburger guy! Holy cow! McDonald's toys used to be so good. I mean, they even gave out Madame Alexander dolls one time.

In my family growing up we only ate fast food or when we were on vacation or going to the movies. I always had to choose if I wanted french fries or popcorn before a movie. I remember waking up in hotel rooms (Why were they always sitting at the edge of my bed to put their shoes on? It always woke me up.) with my parents and my dad bringing my mom coffee and me some hotcakes from McD's. Those gummy pancakes still make me feel like I'm on vacation.

It was a game changer when Hardees offered mini pound puppies, though.
Remember when Hardees gave out pound puppies? I must have been pretty serious about it because I remember that my mom would come home from hanging out with her best friend and give me one. Eating at Hardees was the ultimate sacrifice back then. When I think of Hardees I always think about warm mayonnaise. Ugh. Sorry for that image, folks. Let's have a pound puppy chaser...

(I started watching that thinking that I'd never seen the cartoon and then I realized that I knew the theme song. So weird.)

Growing up we had a full collection of Star Wars glasses from Burger King (my older brother's version of a pound puppy) and then later on a few Chipettes glasses as well. What's a Chipette? I tried to YouTube this for you because their was a Chipette movie at one point but apparently it's mostly CGI Chipettes dancing to Single Ladies these days. Most of the actual old school Chipette animation has been paired with sped up Taylor Swift songs. (Did you have any Alvin and the Chipmunks Records growing up? I had the Chipmunks do Michael Jackson and I used to listen to the sped up version of Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' sped up even faster on my record player.) Anyway...here are the real Chipettes before they sold out...

I was SO EXCITED to see this glass at a beach house that we visited that I took a picture of it. Apparently, these glasses are antiques now and you can see them from time to time. I think the remainder of the glasses that we had that weren't broken or sold at yard sales may have went to college with my brother. (Unlike my EWOK VILLAGE which I could have used to fund my undergrad degree that my mom gave to a neighbor. I'd be bitter about it but the lady ate at Hardees for me.*)

I'm sure there are other good Fast Food toy memories that I have rattling around my brain with, apparently, the Pound Puppies theme song among other things. Until this gif showed up on Senor Gif I had forgotten all about those french fry transformers. Or GoBots or whatever.

*Is it Hardee's or Hardees. Like, is someone named Hardee the owner of the place or what? I have no idea and it's a fairly regional chain so you might not know either. My husband loves the place so I'll ask him.)

So, I remember getting pound puppies and pound purries and my cat would steal them out of my room and carry them around like baby kitties. AKA: kittens. Sheesh! Why didn't I just call them kittens??? ANYway, he would totally carry them around by the neck and hide them in secret spots. He cleaned them and snuggled them. SO CUTE! I thought only female cats did that. Also, I remember the care bear glasses from Pizza Hut when I was little. I think my mom still has them.
