Your name: Michele L. Corneglio
For some reason I have to use my L. It’s not like there are very many Michele Corneglio’s or Michele Papadopulos’ in the world!
Your hometown: Northlake, IL
What fun thing(s) have you got planned for this summer?
Photography (I recently acquired a Nikon D90), Baseball games (Padres games are reasonably priced), Hiking (there’s plenty to see around here, most for free!). And a trip to STL and CHI this summer too—see some old friends and some old family too! ;)
Mark and I started taking pictures with pricey cameras. We’ve always loved taking pictures and when I started scrapbooking it was natural to take more and more and to get better and better! So now – we’re doing that as a team instead of drag racing as a team (you’ll get to that part later). Maybe it’s a Midwest thing, but we both enjoy a baseball game at the park. We’re hoping to get some tickets to the Padres and Cubs! GO CUBS GO!! AND being down town at a ball park and the after the game people watching is too much fun to pass up.
And the hiking part – we love hiking and walking around. Torrey Pines State Park/Reserve is one of my most favorite places on earth. The ‘hike down’ from the cliff edge to the beach is breathtaking – but not nearly as much as the continuous HIKE UP THE CLIFF BACK TO THE CAR!!! Whew! You want a great work out and a wonderful view – that’s the place to go the next time you’re in town!
How did you end up in san diego instead of central illnois?
The hubby got a new job in Saint Louis about 9 years ago and we moved from Bloominton-Normal to STL. Then about 2 years ago he had the most awesome ability to relocate (all costs included) to San Diego, CA. The place we had called our Dream Location. We honeymooned partly here and we vacationed here as often as possible and damn did we fall in love with this area, city, climate, you name it! And here we are. We live only 8 miles from the Mexican Border now! Who knew anyone lived that close?
Tell me about your pup
Samantha Michele Corneglio, a tri-color red Border Collie with a rough coat, was born August 5, 1998. We bought her from a farmer in central Illinois in October 1998. She’s been our little girl ever since! She has the vocabulary of an average 3 year old human child. Her favorite game is “I’ll sit at the top of the stairs and you throw the ball up to me. If I don’t catch it – do it again. If I do catch it I’m going to slobber on it until you tell me to drop it.” She has quite a blast playing this game. Visitors are always surprised that she tells them exactly what she wants you to do. She loves playing in the ocean and in kiddie pools. She isn’t a fan of little dogs or puppies. Sammy Grrl a.k.a. Sammy Doggit is the elder stateswoman of the neighborhood and many of the dog parents here love her!
What's the body bugg thing you are always talking about?
The BodyBugg is a device that tracks how much energy / calories you expend while you’re wearing it. Combined with its online software program you enter in how many calories you’ve eaten you can see if you’re on the path you want to be on. I kinda suck at tracking my food intake and I never quite meet my calorie out goal either, but I am on a maintain track pretty well. Thanks for the reminder because I need to go get myself active and drop these last 15lbs I need to let go of!!
Drag racing? what?
HAHAHA!! Yea! Drag Racing – How’d you know? Did you Google me? ;)
When in Saint Louis, hubby picked up a race truck – Ford Lightning. I would be the photographer and cheering section. After about 1.5 seasons of him racing, I decided to take my Monte Carlo down the track! HA!! What a boat! The fastest I got down the quarter mile track was 16.060 seconds. That was SO AMAZINGLY SLOW but it felt like no time flat! I was addicted instantly. We turned around and found me a new car a few weeks later – 2004 Nissan 350Z. I started racing her down the track before she had new plates!! I was in LUST with my new car. I had her all the way up until early 2010. She was eventually centrifugally supercharged and had a few other after market “make me go faster” parts tacked on for fun. We raced for quite some time. Every Tuesday night when we could because it was Street Legal Drag Racing night. I have a whole scrapbook dedicated to her (and one for the Lightning as well) with our racing slips and pictures of all of our mods and snapshots of us at the track. Ahh…those were great times! Bret Kepner is a race enthusiast and photographer at Gateway International Raceway. He also writes up all the news for the races. How exciting is it that MY NAME is in PRINT?! :O Go to http://www.gatewayracetrack.com/track/pf.php?id=1072 to see the snippets about Mark and I for this day’s racing.
Talk about whatever you want here.
Well – Baja California was just hit yesterday by a 7.2 earthquake. We felt a really good rumbling rolling quake here in San Diego. We’re only 8 miles from the border, so we’re actually the closest of all the people we know. No damage here. A few things got shaken out of place. We’re safe and sound. That was the strongest quake we’ve both felt since we moved here (ever in fact). And the 5 aftershocks that I’ve felt now – I’m kinda done with that for a while…. As I was typing the next answer… aftershock 6 rolled through… have I mentioned I’m done with that?
Do you have a blog or website you'd like to plug?
I don’t blog or have a website per say, but I would like to share my husband’s photos (and some of mine while you’re there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mmcracing/ I think he’s an amazing beginner photographer.
I'm the say way with my name, i have to put that middle inital in there. and really there are tons of people with my maiden name but NOONE with my married name. I guess it makes it more stylish to have a middle initial, i bet Alex P. Keaton started it!
Cameras can be addictive, pete just upgraded all his camera gear and i try not to think about how much he spent. But it's a fun hobby for him so it's worth it.
