We expanded our garden this year so it's twice the size of last year. (Please note that i'm not the tender of this garden, my husband is)
So we have a row of assorted sunflowers, two rows of Roma and Beefsteak tomatoes and 3 rows of green, habenero and some other sort of pepper. (please note: I DO NOT EAT PEPPERS)
I'm really starting to get into canning the food that comes out of our backyard, last year i made a bunch of applesauce and apple butter that seemed to go over well. This year since we have quite a bit more tomatoes than EVER I figure I need to can them. I've been asking around from simple and GREAT pasta sauce recipes. Those are easy enough to find online.
I really enjoy the fact that I can walk out into my yard and grab a few veggies and eat them right away. Too bad there's no such thing as an outdoor winter vegtetable or else i'd be all over that!.
Do you have a garden and what's your favorite crop to come out of it?
So far I LOVE our apple trees and making dishes with our apples. This year our pear tree is finally maturing and we're going to have a lot of pears too.
My favorite thing about our garden. The birdies! At any time I can go out there and find goldfinches and other small birds hanging out in the shade of the sunflowers.
