music is my boyfriend: Lolla

Tuesday, January 24, 2012 · 1 comments

This video is pretty much a commercial for the fest, but it still shows some really great reasons why i love lolla. I'm blessed to live near chicago where lolla has been for the past 5years or so. i've been to 3 of the past 5 and plan to go again this summer.

if you don't look very close, i'm the sweaty looking lady in the hat in the back dancing :)

I totally got the lyrics on this song WRONG. i hope whoever made this video has the right lyrics, cuz they don't make much sense at all. but it's still a good song to listen to.

Music is my Boyfriend: GIRLS

Wednesday, January 4, 2012 · 1 comments

Sirius XM has been playing a lot of Girls lately...not as in females but as in the band named 'Girls'.
The first song i heard by them was called Vomit...not at all what i expected, i don't recall there being any lyrics about vomit or vomit sounds so anything was an improvement over my expectations.

I have XM/Sirius in my car and between 11am - 1pm cst they play blog radio, which is some pretty weird stuff. But i like this guy as long as he's not talking too much. He plays some good music and i've learned about some new bands from him.

Check out his year in review post and enjoy one of my choices from his list.

Whatever Wednesday : don't be that guy

Wednesday, November 30, 2011 · 1 comments

If you've ever seen PCU, you know that Jeremy Piven's character warns Jon Favreau's character :
What's this? You're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy.

I've been to a few concerts lately where people did NOT go by this rule and this wore their brand new HOT TOPIC purchased t-shirt and thus were beaten up by hipster alterna-nerds and banished from going outdoors for life.

no, not really but they were secretly scorned by hipster alterna-nerds who scoffed at their faux-pas.

The snopes msg boards have some interesting things to say about this and some people are trying to find the origin of this "Rule". #1 if you are going to complain about elitist hipsters coming up with arbitrary rules, don't try to figure out WHY they came up with this arbitrary rule. Just scoff and move on. Otherwise you risk turning into a hipster and then become the thing you hate most.

I liked this guy's comment that there are a few exceptions to this rule:
  • Wearing to a concert said band's exceptionally well-preserved but old t-shirt
  • Wearing a t-shirt of a band that one of the performing bandmembers was once in/formed as an offshoot (note: not ok in the case of Sebadoh/Dinosaur Jr. or old G'N'R/new G'N'R, e.g.)

Just don't do it ok? Wear your Jersey Shore t-shirt and be ironic instead.

Summer 1984

Warrior - Scandal, 1984

Why this song? well the first time i ever went to Six Flags was with my girl scout troop and it's a long drive to Gurnee. I was so terribly excited to be going and see a real roller coaster that i sat forward in my seat the entire 90 minute drive. This song was on the radio as soon as i saw the biggest roller coaster i'd ever seen, The American Eagle. To me this song will always be summer at six flags.

Can't Stand it - Wilco, 1999

This song will always remind me of the summer of 1999-2001. We went to downtown Chicago quite a bit those summers and there were lots of fireworks shows set to this song.

Gangsta - Tune Yards 2011

this song...because it's been stuck on repeat in my brain for the last 4 months.

do you have a quintessential 'SUMMER SONG'?

what's on rotation in your brain this summer?

School's Out For EVER!

Monday, May 31, 2010 · 0 comments

What's your favorite spring/summer song from your childhood? from recent memory?
I always liked School's Out by Alice Cooper.  Not because I like Alice Cooper, but because that song is about the end of school :)  And with my current job it still applies.  SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!  SCHOOL'S OUT FOREVER!
- Steffy

This is going to sound funny, but Wham! songs that were popular in junior high or so.  My stepmom, Debra, used to play the popular radio station when we were visiting them in Houston, and I thought she was sooo cool! :)
- Cristy

I'd have to say that from my childhood, I'd have to go with Richard Marx  "Hazard" - I always listened to this cassette tape when I mowed the lawn. In recent memory? Hmmm...I love to drive with the windows down and Daughtry or Nickelback  blasting from the speakers.
- Ann

Whenever I hear "I am the warrior" by Scandal I think of going to Six Flag with my girl scout troop and six flags is all about summer. I can hear them playing Scandal really loud while i stand in line for the Eagle.
